The Role of a Forensic Accountant in a Criminal Tax Matter
In white collar fraud, particularly criminal tax cases, financial evidence is the foundation, and forensic accountants are a critical component in helping attorneys and the courts understand what that evidence reveals. Through the analysis of financial records, forensic accountants can reconstruct transactions, trace the flow of funds, and identify indicators of tax fraud and other financial misconduct.
This presentation examines the forensic accountant's role throughout the life cycle of a criminal tax case, from the initial review of records through trial or resolution. Participants will learn how forensic accountants assist in evaluating tax loss, assessing the reliability of financial evidence, identifying weaknesses in the government's analysis, and communicating complex financial issues in a clear and persuasive manner.
